Fall Weekend at Oglebay Resort, Oct 19-23, 2017

posted Oct 2, 2017, 12:38 PM by John Hredzak

The deadline to register for fall weekend has passed, but we may still have a few spaces available.

Once again fall weekend is really more like “fall almost-a-week” because we start our trip on Thursday and stay until Monday. Our extended stay means we can throw a football party and watch the Steelers take on the Bengals at 1:00 pm Sunday from the comfort of our cottage without worrying about driving home!

Registration fee of $300 members / $325 non-members entitles you to 4 nights lodging at an Oglebay cottage, breakfast each morning, and dinner on Friday evening.

Cottage amenities include refrigerator, dishwasher, gas fireplace, outside deck with gas grill, flat-panel TVs, wireless internet access, and washer/dryer. We also have access to Wilson Lodge, which has an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, and fitness room at no cost.  Massage therapy is also available at a charge.

Available activities at the Resort include the Good Zoo, mini-golf, tennis, horseback riding, scenic walking and jogging trails, and tours of the Mansion museum.  All activities are open year-round (weather permitting) and require separate payment, if applicable.  If you’re interested in games of chance (other than our usual rousing games of LCR, of course) Wheeling Downs is close by and offers greyhound racing (as scheduled) and casino games (24 hours, 7 days a week).

If you're interested in this fun-filled trip, please contact Margie at margpietrusinski@comcast.net as soon as possible. Reservations are first come, first served.

Please note that, if you can’t make it for the full weekend, you are welcome to take a day trip and spend some time in scenic West Virginia with your CAC friends.  Please let Margie know if you plan to visit.

Our co-ed softball and tennis leagues play from April to August.  Due to players moving out of town, changes in work schedules, etc., we're always looking for replacements. We play softball every Sunday at Blawnox Park behind the gas station off Exit 9 of Route 28, and play tennis every Monday or Tuesday in Brookline Park on Pioneer Avenue near the Liberty Tunnels. Players of all abilities are welcome. Applications can be found at the Softball page and Tennis page.

And spectators are always welcome.

Time is running out to sign up for two CACI vacation opportunities.

The Illinois State Museum is also nearby.

The 2016 CACI Convention/Vacation will be July 17-23 in Billings, Montana which is the county seat of Yellowstone County. We will stay at the Crowne Plaza in the downtown area. Some of the many things to do are:
  • Rimrocks Park
  • Little Bighorn National Park (Custer’s last Stand) and Pompey’s Pillar National Monument
  • Pictograph Cave State Park
  • Moss Mansion
  • Beartooth Highway Scenic Drive
  • Chief Plenty Coups Museum
  • Yellowstone National Park Day trip
  • Devils tower Day trip

Dining Out – Lenten Style

posted Feb 22, 2016, 7:52 PM by John Hredzak   [ updated Feb 22, 2016, 7:56 PM ]

Instead of a restaurant outing this month, we’ve decided to try a couple of the many fine fish fries offered in the Pittsburgh Diocese. We hope you can attend one or both. Consider joining us for Stations of the Cross after dinner, too. If you have any questions, or would like to let us know that you are coming so we know to look for you, please contact us. We’ll be glad to have you join us.

Looking to try a new fish fry every week? If you didn’t catch the 2016 Fish Fry supplement to the Pittsburgh Catholic, or forgot to save it, it can be accessed here: http://www.pittsburghcatholic.org/-Fish-Fries-.
